The Bears are coming off a tough loss against Holy Cross on Wednesday November 28th, snapping their five-game winning streak. The Hawks are coming in trying to get their first win. The first quarter begins, and Charlotte Jewel hits a three to start and you could feel what type of game this was going to be. At the 526 mark in the first Mya Murray and Isabella Mauricio checked in, and bang Isabella knocks It down, Brown leading 11-9. Alyssa Moreland with a nice block that led to a Bears easy layup. Isabella hits from behind the arc again and at the end of one the Bears were shooting 45.5 % from the field and had the lead 19-11.
At the start of the second you could hear the Bears bench yelling “Defense, Defense” and Alyssa Moreland gets a nice offensive rebound and the putback. Shot clock violation, and bang another three by Isabella Mauricio, she was having herself a game. The Bears were leading 26-13 but that did not stop the Hartford Hawks from fighting back. Zaiha Minnis hits baseline jumper, the hawks lock down on defense and Zaiha comes back, and bang knocks down a three. The Hawks were not done, here comes Jasmine Barnes and knocks down another three 26-22, and forces the Bears to call a timeout. It’s the last two minutes of the half and the Bears have a 4pt lead, Mya Murray had a good cut to the basket for quick two points. Charlotte Jewel gets a bucket at the buzzer to end the half with the Bears Up 34-24. Isabella Mauricio leading with 9pts, Alyssa Moreland with 8pts, and Charlotte Jewel with 5pts. Bears leading the rebound battle 25-17 and had 9pts off turnovers. For the Hawks Jasmine Barns had 7pts and Zahia Minnis with 5pts.
You can see the look on the girl's face, this half was about taking care of business and start the third the Bears caused a turnover. The Hawks were still about the business because they got back on the defensive end and started to get easy buckets and got the score within four 34-36. Isabella Mauricio started to heat up and she knocked down back-to-back threes giving the Bears a 44-32 lead. The girls were smiling and talking to each other on the court and the entire team looked and felt good. Gianna Aiello, nice back door cut to the basket for two giving the Bears a 48-34 lead causing the Hawks to call a timeout.
It’s the start of the fourth and bang Beth Nelson comes and knocks down another three, 59-38. Energy is contagious and the entire team was feeling the ball movement because everyone was knocking down shots. Grace Kirk came in off the bench and got back-to-back buckets. Bears won the ball game 68-52. Isabella Mauricio 18pts, Beth Nelson with 9pts, Gianna Aiello with 9pts and Alyssa Morland with 8pts 10 Rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 block.
