Uncasville, CT (August 9, 2023) - Today, the Connecticut Sun announced that its Connecticut Sun Foundation, the organization's donation arm, will be hosting its annual Back to School Drive. The Sun Foundation will be providing 500 Connecticut Sun backpacks filled with various donated school supplies to help children return to school with the necessary materials.
"The Back to School Drive comes from the Sun's desire to provide underserved children with the necessary tools and confidence to begin and succeed throughout the school year," said Morgan Tuck, Connecticut Sun Director of Franchise Development and Assistant General Manager. "We believe every child deserves a level playing field when it comes to education, and we are proud to do our part to make that happen."
The Connecticut Sun is calling fans to support the drive by visiting and purchasing items on the organization's Amazon Wishlist, or by donating new or gently used school supplies. The Sun will be collecting donations in bins located on the Mohegan Sun Arena concourse near the Earth and Sky entrances for Connecticut Sun home games on August 18 vs. the Dallas Wings and August 24 vs. the New York Liberty.
Purchases from the Amazon Wishlist will take place from August 1-August 31, or until all of the backpacks have been filled. Backpacks and supplies will be donated to the following Connecticut Sun community partners: St. Vincent de Paul Place, The Village for Families and Children, Angel of Edgewood, Safe Futures, and the Theta Alpha Sigma Alumnae Chapter (TAS) of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.'s Operation Big Book Bag initiative.
The Connecticut Sun's next home game will be its first Indigenous People's Night against the Dallas Wings on Friday, August 18 at 7:00 PM EST.
