Uncasville, CT (June 29, 2023) - Today, the Connecticut Sun announced its plans for the organization's annual Breast Health Awareness game Presented by Yale New Haven Health to raise awareness on the importance of breast health using early detection and local resources.
The Breast Health Awareness will take place during the Sun's game against the Washington Mystics on Sunday, July 9 at 3:00 PM EST at Mohegan Sun Arena. The first 2,500 fans will receive a light up pink ribbon pin.
The Sun will be running a number of fundraising opportunities for fans to donate to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Before and during the game, the Connecticut Sun will be selling Breast Health Awareness shirts on the Mohegan Sun Arena concourse and on the Sun's merchandise website, with 25% of t-shirt sales going to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. The Sun will also be running a DASH auction, providing exclusive gear for fans to bid on to support the fund. The auction will run from Monday, July 3 at 12:00 PM EST until Monday, July 10 at 12:00 PM EST. Lastly, the Sun will be hosting a Pledge It Campaign, encouraging fans to pledge a dollar amount of their choosing for every assist a Connecticut Sun player makes during the game. The Connecticut Sun will match up to $2000 of the money raised from the Pledge It Campaign.
"It is incredible to see the way in which the Connecticut Sun and community have supported the Kay Yow Cancer Fund over the years. What started as a player-led initiative has now turned into an annual occurrence of uniting the community in such a way that brings strength, courage, and hope to cancer survivors and thrivers,” said Jenny Palmateer, Kay Yow Cancer Fund CEO. “We are so grateful for the partnership with the Sun and the Connecticut community and for the impact we are making together.”
In addition to gaining information about early detection and local resources, fans in the arena will also see a $5,000 check presentation to the Joel E. Smilow Cancer Center and engage in a Terri Brodeur Foundation Survivor Recognition.
"The Sun's annual commitment to Breast Health Awareness comes from the importance the organization puts on promoting breast health, honoring those who have been affected by cancer, and celebrating those who have survived. We are proud to continue working with and supporting the Kay Yow Cancer Fund and their mission of 'educating, equipping and empowering the next generation to help their families, friends, and communities break down barriers to quality cancer healthcare.'" - Morgan Tuck, Connecticut Sun Director of Franchise Development and Assistant General Manager
