Howard's Kyle Foster and NC Central's Eric Boone Headlines this Week's Coca-Cola Player Awards


NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 15, 2022 Graduate guard Kyle Foster of Howard has been selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, it was announced on Tuesday. North Carolina Central junior guard Eric Boone was selected as Defensive Player of the Week. Rookie of the Week honors went to freshman guard Elijah Hawkins of Howard.

Foster (G, 6-5, Gr., Hampton, Va.) averaged 19.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 2.0 assists per game to help Howard to a 3-0 record last week. He scored a career-high-tying 27 points against Delaware State on Saturday and followed that up with a 22-point performance at Maryland Eastern Shore. Foster shot 50 percent from the field (17-for-34), 52 percent from 3-point range (13-for-25) and 92 percent from the free throw line (12-for-13) for the week.

Boone (F, 6-2, r-Sr., Lexington, Ky.) totaled 15 rebounds (5.0 rpg), 14 steals (4.7 spg) and two blocks (0.7 bpg) in three games last week. In the win over Morgan State, he grabbed six rebounds and had six steals and nine points. Against Warren Wilson, he had five rebounds, five steals and a blocked shot to go along with six points and six assists.

Hawkins (G, 6-3, Fr., Memphis, Tenn.) averaged 9.7 points, 7.3 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game in Howard’s three wins last week. He scored in double figures against Delaware State (13) and Maryland Eastern Shore (10) and finished with six points, five boards, five assists, three steals and a block against Warren Wilson.

Other Top Performers

Kyle Cardaci (Coppin State) averaged 13 points and 3.5 rebounds in two games last week.

Nendah Tarke (Coppin State) had a two-game average of 12.5 points and 6.5 rebounds for the Eagles.

Myles Carter (Delaware State) shot 77 percent from the field (10-for-13) en route to tying his career high of 25 points against Howard.

Randall Brumant (Howard) had back-to-back double-digit scoring performances against Delaware State (13) and Maryland Eastern Shore (16). He also blocked a season-high four shots against the Hornets.

Chace Davis (Maryland Eastern Shore) had 11 points and two rebounds against Norfolk State.

Nathaniel Pollard, Jr. (Maryland Eastern Shore) totaled 17 points, 15 rebounds and two blocks for the week.

Dana Tate (Norfolk State) scored 20 points in the Spartans’ come-from-behind win at Delaware State.

Justin Wright (North Carolina Central) scored 24 points on 10-for-18 (53%) shooting from the field in the win over Morgan State.

Rashaan Edwards (South Carolina State) recorded 15 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals in the win over Coppin State.

Antonio “TJ” Madlock (South Carolina State) dropped 16 points and shot 92 percent from the free throw line (12-for-13) against Morgan State.
